Associate Director, Neuromuscular Clinical Lab
WashU Medicine Department of Neurology is seeking applications for a faculty member at the assistant, associate or professor level to serve as the associate director of the Neuromuscular Clinical Lab. The Neuromuscular Clinical Lab (NMCL), founded in 1989 by Alan Pestronk, MD, is a world-renowned CLIA/CAP-certified clinical laboratory providing subspecialty diagnostic testing for local, national and international providers. The laboratory is located on the WashU Medical Campus and is affiliated with both Barnes-Jewish and St. Louis Children’s Hospitals. WashU Medicine Neurology is national leader in patient care, research and education and is known for its collaborative atmosphere and mentoring of young faculty members in a vibrant city with a favorable cost of living.
WashU Medicine Neurology is a fast-paced and dynamic home to faculty with diverse clinical and research interests and has a long record of innovation, research and scholarship. The NMCL has a very close working relationship with the esteemed Section of Clinical Neuromuscular Medicine providing subspecialty clinical care for local, national and international patients. The NMCL is in a state-of-the art facility, equipped with modern instrumentation. Specialized testing includes nerve, muscle and skin pathology, diagnostic immunology (i.e., testing for over 50 distinct autoantibodies), and neurologic biomarker testing on serum and cerebrospinal fluid.
Duties will include oversight of select services in the NMCL, including but not limited to diagnostic immunology and biomarker testing with a particular focus on CAP and regulatory work. The ideal candidate will serve as the laboratory’s leader to ensure continued compliance with regulatory standards, evaluate quality control/assurance data, lead quality improvement projects, participate in local and system level decision making, as well as other routine responsibilities. In addition, the successful individual will participate in clinical, translational and/or basic science research activities.
The department has accredited neuromuscular pathology and neuromuscular medicine fellowships. Mentorship and education of fellows and residents is an important responsibility of all faculty.
Candidates must possess a MD and/or PhD or DCLS. The successful candidate will have experience in regulatory work, specifically CAP, as well as validation and implementation of new laboratory methods, excellent interpersonal skills, enthusiasm for teaching and a collaborative attitude. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience.
