Director of Anesthesiology at Sunset Hills Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC)

WashU Medicine in St. Louis, Department of Anesthesiology (WUDA) is seeking applications for the Medical Director Position at the Sunset Hills Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). This clinical leadership role will partner with and assist the Regional and Ambulatory Division Chief and the Vice Chair for Clinical Operations to support daily operations, scheduling faculty and CRNAs accordingly with OR case mix/volume, and promote safety, quality, and efficiency of healthcare delivery in Sunset Hills ASC operating rooms and procedural areas.

The Medical Director of the Sunset Hills ASC will have an important role in supporting WUDA clinical teams; in furthering professionalism and teamwork, diversity, inclusion and belonging, learning and innovation, and ensuring that BJH perioperative and procedural areas are a respectful, safe, and nurturing environment for patients and members of the healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Excellence

  • Partner with Sunset Hills ASC Perioperative Services and other leaders in managing daily schedules and hours of operation.
  • Provide around-the-clock logistical support to WUDA teams on the Sunset Hills ASC campus.
  • Ensure WUDA provides highly reliable, high-quality, equitable, and timely care in perioperative and procedural areas.
  • Advance all four of the department’s quadripartite missions through alignment of clinical operations with education, research, and service goals.
  • Partner with the Chair, Vice Chairs, Division Chief, and clinical staff in developing strategic plans and formulating policies that strengthen departmental operations.
  • In partnership with the departmental financial team, assure sound financial management and stewardship of resources.

Quality and Safety

  • Support WUDA alignment with BJC and WUSM perioperative Patient Safety and Quality initiatives.
  • Ensure WUDA meets Safety, Quality, and Service metrics as outlined in the Contracted Services agreement.
  • Ensure clinical operations support of WUDA PSQ and Green initiatives.
  • Create and maintain a QA/QI process for Sunset Hills ASC, in partnership with the Division Chief.
  • Standardize policies and procedures across relevant clinical areas to ensure consistent, high-quality care delivery.

Leadership

  • Foster a collaborative, supportive culture; build clinical teams and a sense of community among WUSM and BJC clinical staff.
  • Represent WUDA with BJC Perioperative Services, WUSM surgical, and procedural services.
  • In partnership with the Vice Chair for Clinical Operations and Division Chief, advise on staffing needs including optimal staffing models and recruitment priorities and initiatives.
  • Contribute actively to recruitment and retention efforts of both anesthesiologists and CRNAs.
