The Division of Laboratory and Genomic Medicine (LGM) in the Department of Pathology and Immunology at Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM) seeks outstanding physician-scientists for a full-time faculty position with research, teaching, and clinical responsibilities at the Assistant Professor level (or above) in the Investigator Track. The successful candidate will direct an independent basic or translational research program focused on any area of biomedical science related to human disease, such as mitochondria biology, immunometabolism, host-microbiome dynamics, and cancer biology.

 

Clinical duties will include responsibilities at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH) as an attending physician on the adult transfusion medicine service.  Additional responsibilities will include education of clinical pathology residents, blood banking and transfusion medicine fellows, medical students, and medical technologists.

 

The successful candidate must possess an MD or MD/PhD, be board-certified or board-eligible in Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine. A successful candidate will have experience in clinical and laboratory aspects of transfusion medicine, including apheresis, blood banking and cellular therapies. Other desired attributes include excellent interpersonal skills, enthusiasm for teaching, and a collaborative attitude. A minimum of two years demonstrated postdoctoral research experience is preferred. Individuals with a documented record of grant support are highly desirable. Salary and appointment rank will be commensurate with the applicant’s experience and training.

 

WUSM is home to a series of interdisciplinary Centers and Institutes, as well as a comprehensive set of state-of-the-art core facilities available to all faculty. The Department of Pathology & Immunology has close ties to the Bursky Center for Human Immunology & Immunotherapy, the Edison Family Center for Genome Sciences & Systems Biology, the Flow Cytometry Core Facility, the Gnotobiotic Core Facility, the McDonnell Genome Institute, and the Tissue Procurement Facility, among others. The Department’s Office of Faculty Development and its Mentoring Program provides resources and support at all stages of career development.

 

BJH is a 1250 bed tertiary care hospital affiliated with Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM). BJH serves a diverse patient population, including a large cell therapy program (500+/year), solid organ (kidney, liver, lung, heart, pancreas) transplantation service, Level I trauma center, high risk obstetrics (including neonatal workups), and cardiovascular surgery service. The transfusion medicine service includes a blood bank, which transfuses over 90,000 components annually, an apheresis center providing approximately 4,000 cell therapy product collections and therapeutic procedures per year, and a cellular therapy laboratory serving a large hematopoietic stem cell transplant service. Transfusion medicine service includes call coverage for BJH, as well as select smaller hospitals in the BJC system.
