Endovascular Neurologist
The Department of Neurology at Washington University School of Medicine is seeking an Endovascular Neurologist for a position in the Cerebrovascular Disease Section in the Department of Neurology. Washington University Physicians collaborate closely with the BJC Healthcare System, which consists of 13 hospitals in the St. Louis area, including its flagship hospital, Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH). BJH is a Joint-Commission certified Comprehensive Stroke Center—one of only two in the area. The endovascular neurologist will join the existing team of neuro-interventionalists to provide coverage for endovascular surgical procedures at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH), Barnes-Jewish St. Peter’s Hospital (BJSPH), and anticipated Christian Hospital (CH). The endovascular neurologist will rotate at BJH to permit the performance of complex elective endovascular procedures and to carry out other academic pursuits (research, education, administration). Call coverage at the pool of thrombectomy-capable hospitals will be shared with four others: an endovascular neurologist, a radiologist, and two vascular neurosurgeons, with anticipated further growth. In addition, support will be provided for inpatient and outpatient vascular neurology and stroke opportunities to provide longitudinal and comprehensive medical and elective endovascular cerebrovascular care.
The Stroke & Cerebrovascular Center at Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Hospital—with 12 vascular neurologists, 8 neurointensivists, four vascular neurosurgeons, and four emergency medicine physicians subspecialty trained in neurovascular emergencies—is a highly collaborative cross-disciplinary team. The Stroke & Cerebrovascular Center sees one of the highest volume centers in the country, supporting five clinical stroke fellows and one stroke research fellow. The Neuroendovascular Intervention fellowship also supports up to 3 fellows. Moreover, the Neurology Department at Washington University has an extensive research infrastructure, evidenced by its clinical and translational research productivity as well as its success in faculty development. The Department employs over 150 faculty and offers neurological care in all subspecialties. In addition to BJH, BJSPH, and CH, affiliated hospitals include St. Louis Children’s Hospital (SLCH), the Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis, among many others.
