CARDIOLOGY: Sports Cardiology Program Director
The Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, at Washington University School of Medicine is conducting a search for an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor of Medicine to join the Sports Cardiology Program at Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University School of Medicine and to lead the Program.
The candidate should be an MD or MD/PhD with passionate about athlete heart health, and ready to lead a growing, dynamic program at one of the nation’s top academic medical centers. The candidate should be board-certified in adult cardiovascular disease.
The next Director of Sports Cardiology will have the opportunity to build upon the strong foundation established since the program’s launch in 2020. As the first and only dedicated sports cardiology program in the St. Louis region, we’ve cultivated a consistent referral base spanning high school, collegiate, professional, and master athletes. Our newly developed cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) program features state-of-the-art equipment and expanding clinical services.
We’ve received enthusiastic support from both community and institutional partners, and this is an incredible opportunity to shape the next phase of a rapidly evolving field. The director will have the chance to lead clinical innovation, collaborate with multidisciplinary experts, and develop a high-impact program with regional and national visibility.

The candidate should be an MD or DO board-certified in adult cardiovascular disease and should be well-versed in ambulatory general cardiology. Interest in cardiac imaging, including 2-D transthoracic, transesophageal, 3D, and stress echocardiography is desirable. Inpatient cardiology time and diagnostic cardiac catheterization interest can be accommodated.
