#1011108 Pediatric Palliative Care Physician
The Pediatric Palliative Care Program at Washington University School of Medicine (WashU)/ St. Louis Children’s Hospital (SLCH) seeks Pediatric Palliative Care Physician, board certified or board eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine to provide pediatric palliative care consultation in various locations within St. Louis Children's Hospital. Position will participate in interdisciplinary consultation services, facilitate discussion and clarification of goals of care, and will collaborate with the primary medical team and community agencies throughout a child's disease trajectory. The physician candidate will participate in the team’s educational efforts with trainees and medical staff in all areas of care regarding pediatric palliative care, including but not limited to: appropriate pain and symptom management, grief, interdisciplinary approaches to caring for children and families facing life-threatening or life-limiting conditions, care and will assist in educational, research and advocacy efforts for children with complex chronic and/or life-threatening conditions. This position will also provide on-call medical coverage for inpatient service and BJC WINGS hospice and palliative care.
The Palliative Care Program participates in the education of pediatric residents, Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellows in ACGME-accredited training programs, as well as medical students from Washington University School of Medicine and other medical schools. Successful faculty candidates will be committed, effective teachers, outstanding clinicians, and skilled team builders.
Our interdisciplinary team is composed of physicians, nurse practitioners and social workers. We have a continuity-based model that offers the full scope of palliative care practice, including symptom management, medical decision-making guidance, family support and home palliative care an hospice. Extensive opportunities exist for collaborations in education, research, quality and safety with faculty members in the Division, the Department of Pediatrics, at the School of Medicine, and in other Departments/Schools at Washington University.

- Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy
- Board certified or eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine
- Experience working with medically complex conditions, including direct provision of end-of-life care.
- Experience caring for children in diverse locations of care including acute and/or long-term care facilities, outpatient clinics and home.
- Experience working within an interdisciplinary team
Successful faculty candidates will be passionate about pediatric palliative care and working within an interdisciplinary team. The candidate should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, expertise in pain and symptom management, and should be comfortable providing end-of-life care for patients with complex medical conditions.
