Associate Vice Chair for Quality and Safety

The Washington University Department of Anesthesiology is inviting applications for a new role within our Department. The Associate Vice Chair for Quality and Safety will work closely with the Director of Patient Safety, the Director of Clinical Informatics and QI, the Administrative Director of Patient Safety and Quality, the Patient Safety Coordinator, hospital partners, and other departmental leaders to plan, direct, and oversee operations related to innovative quality and safety initiatives within the department. The focus of this leadership position will be to expand and implement efficient and cost-effective processes to achieve the department’s strategic goals in these areas. INQUIRES serves as a hub for research, education and training, quality improvement, and patient safety, bringing interdisciplinary teams together. Responsibilities will include executive oversight of safety event reporting processes, oversight of QI projects within the department using analytics for the purpose of clinical quality measurement and improvement; continued growth of MPOG and associated quality of care and education initiatives; promoting collaboration and operational efficiencies among stakeholders; and working in tandem with the OPGIC on the mission of supporting a collaborative and safe environment for all. This position will ensure seamless INQUIRES collaboration with several other divisions including Division of Clinical and Translational Research (DoCTR), Education, Perioperative Medicine and Clinical Operations, and will work to coordinate projects with the residency, fellowship, SRNA and APP trainee programs as well. This leader will hold a seat at the executive leadership team meetings and will also be actively engaged in the strategic planning and implementation of new programs across the department.

Requirements:
- MD, PhD, and/or PharmD

  • Clinical, education, and research experience in perioperative settings
  • Leadership experience within an academic department and/or teaching hospital which demonstrates ability to oversee operations and translate strategy into actionable performance and growth
  • Leadership as characterized by the ability to communicate effectively and build and maintain trusted relationships with key partners.
  • The ability to develop a common vision for diverse constituents, communicate effectively, and take ownership and responsibility for ideas and actions.
  • Ability to emphasize teamwork, communication, collegiality, flexibility, trust, and patience. 
  • Demonstrated success in promoting and supporting a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and possession of emotional intelligence and a strong commitment to building a collaborative and safe culture.
