Associate Director of Clinical Anesthesiology
Washington University in St. Louis, Department of Anesthesiology (WUDA) is seeking applications for the Associate Director of Clinical Anesthesiology at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH). In this senior clinical leadership role, the Associate Director will partner with and assist the Director of Clinical Anesthesiology at BJH in collaborating with WUDA, BJH Perioperative Services and Washington University surgery and interventional medicine leaders, to support daily operations and strategic planning, and to promote safety, quality, and efficiency of healthcare delivery in BJH operating rooms and procedural areas. The Associate Director will serve as the Medical Director of the Post Anesthesia Care Units (PACU) on the BJH Campus, collaborating with BJH leaders in overseeing the operations, safety, and quality of across the PACUs on the academic Campus.
The Associate Director will have an important role in supporting WUDA clinical teams; in furthering professionalism and teamwork, diversity, inclusion and belonging, learning and innovation, and ensuring that BJH perioperative and procedural areas are respectful, safe, and nurturing environment for patients and members of the healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Excellence
- Define and implement WUDA staffing model across the BJH Campus
- Partner with BJH Perioperative services in managing daily schedule and hours of operations
- Provide an ‘around the-clock’ logistical support to WUDA teams on the BJH Campus
- Ensure WUDA provides highly reliable, high quality, equitable and timely care in BJH perioperative and procedural areas
Quality and Safety
- Oversee anesthesia clinical protocols for the OR and the PACU
- Support WUDA alignment with BJH PSVC and WUSM perioperative PSQ initiatives
- Ensure WUDA meets Safety, Quality and Service metrics, as per the BJH Contracted Services agreement
- Ensure clinical operations support of WUDA PSQ and Green initiatives
Leadership
- Foster a collaborative, supportive culture, build clinical teams and a sense of community among WUSM and BJH clinical staff
- Represent WUDA with BJH Perioperative Service, WUSM surgical and procedural services
- Medical Director of Post Anesthesia Care Unit on the BJH Campus
- Co-Lead WUDA BJH Clinical Operations and POD Leaders Committees
- Co-Lead PACU Leadership Committee in collaboration with the BJH PACU Director
- Co-Lead the Anesthesia Support and Equipment committees
- Co-Lead the Pharmacy Support Group
Qualifications:
- Full time clinical faculty, practicing primarily at BJH
- ABA Board Certification in Anesthesiology
- Recognized as an expert perioperative physician
- Recognized for impeccable integrity, a role model for colleagues and trainees
- Exceptional emotional intelligence and communication skills
- Strong commitment to clinical excellence and culture of safety
- Commitment to building a collaborative, respectful and inclusive, patient-centric culture
