We encourage any type of focused interest for the remaining time in either quality improvement, advocacy or clinical research. For this position, some prior faculty level experience and experience with different types of apheresis procedures is desirable, potentially as a future Medical Director of Apheresis.

The division has a thriving clinical program with a wide range of pathology and provides acute and chronic dialysis services, all types of apheresis services (plasma exchange, photopheresis, red cell reduction, stem cell collections) and pre- and post-transplant care. We perform our own kidney biopsies. Our school, department and division all have a long-standing track record of outstanding basic and clinical research. We are currently one of 3 NIH-funded Pediatric Nephrology Centers of Excellence. We are recognized for outstanding teaching to our sizeable pediatric residency program and have a long-standing ACGME approved Pediatric Nephrology Fellowship program. The division has consistently been listed in the US News and World Report top Pediatric Nephrology programs. Faculty members practice at the attached St Louis Children’s Hospital (ranked in all 10 specialties in most years of the annual US News and World Report), which is a part of the very large 28-hospital Barnes-Jewish Care health care system. The Wash U Medical Center campus is located next to the 1371-acre Forest Park, one of the largest public parks in the country.

The greater St Louis area offers many hidden gems, including world class (and free) museums, numerous theaters, 4 professional sports teams, and plentiful outdoor activities. St Louis has its own hallmark cuisine. The cost of living is very affordable.
