NBM-Division of Newborn Medicine Faculty Appointment (Investigator Track) #1011032

The Division of Newborn Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM)/St. Louis Children’s Hospital (SLCH) seeks Neonatologists at the Instructor/Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor level for appointment on the Investigator track. The major criterion for appointment on the Investigator Track is evidence of academic productivity associated with consistent success in securing extramural support outstanding clinical skills and effective teaching skills across multiple learner domains. Successful faculty candidates will be committed, effective teachers, outstanding clinicians, and skilled team builders. They will join a faculty of 36 Board certified/Board eligible neonatologists who provide clinical care, perform clinical and basic science research, and mentor 18 Neonatal-Perinatal fellows. The activities of the Division are diverse and include cutting-edge, multidisciplinary, family-centered patient care in an 125-bed, high-acuity, high-complexity NICU (expanding to 150 beds in 2020), clinical coverage at regional nurseries, active collaboration with the faculty in the Maternal-Fetal Medicine and General Obstetrics Divisions in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Neonatal and Maternal Transport Teams, an active Fetal Care Center, a high volume Infant Follow Up Clinic, and provision of all forms of neonatal intensive care for infants with diverse critical illnesses including surgical, genetic, and cardiac problems. The Division participates in the education of pediatric residents, pediatric surgical fellows, and Neonatal-Perinatal fellows in ACGME-accredited training programs, as well as medical students from Washington University School of Medicine and other medical schools. Extensive opportunities exist for collaborations in education, quality and safety, and simulation with faculty members in the Division, the Department of Pediatrics, at the School of Medicine, and in other Departments/Schools at Washington University. The ideal candidate should be board certified/eligible in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine and board certified in Pediatrics and should have a track record of outstanding clinical skills, teaching effectiveness, commitment to academic neonatology, and effective team building.

The successful candidates may have focused research interests that can be pursued with the support of the rich sets of resources and academically productive faculty members in the Division, in the Department of Pediatrics, at Washington University School of Medicine, and at other Schools at Washington University.
