Medical Director of the Hemostasis section of the Core Clinical laboratory at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH)
The Department of Pathology & Immunology and the Division of Laboratory and Genomic Medicine (LGM) at Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM) in St. Louis are inviting applications for a Medical Director of the Hemostasis section of the Core Clinical laboratory at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH) at the Assistant/Associate Professor level.
We are seeking a highly motivated faculty member who will lead laboratory hemostasis within the LGM Division. Responsibilities include participation in medical director oversight of the hemostasis testing at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and St. Louis Children’s Hospital, including test development and quality programs. The successful applicant will work closely with faculty in adult and pediatric Hematology and other clinical services. Training of pathology residents and fellows is an essential component of this position. Additional responsibilities will include education of hematology/oncology fellows, medical students, and medical technologists. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience.
The Department: The Department of Pathology & Immunology excels in basic and clinical research as well as delivery of outstanding surgical pathology and laboratory medicine services to our patients and colleagues. The Department has an ACGME accredited Anatomic and Clinical pathology residency program and multiple fellowships. There are four divisions: Immunobiology, Laboratory and Genomic Medicine, Anatomic and Molecular Pathology, and Neuropathology. The Academic Medical Campus and Hospitals: BJH is a 1250 bed tertiary care hospital that serves a diverse patient population, including oncology, surgical, and transplant services. The BJH Core Laboratory is located in a state-of-the art facility, equipped with laboratory automation for routine coagulation testing as well specialized instruments and technologists to perform complex hemostasis testing. The laboratory delivers services in benign and malignant hematology, disorders of hemostasis, and specialized testing for associated diseases (https://www.barnesjewish.org/). In addition, the Core Clinical laboratory provides services for St. Louis Children’s Hospital (SLCH) and other hospitals in the BJC HealthCare System. (https://www.bjc.org/).
SLCH is a 400 bed tertiary hospital that provides care to a diverse pediatric patient population, including neonatology, critical care, sickle cell disease, hematology/oncology, bone marrow and organ transplant services.
The School: U.S. News & World Report ranks WUSM among the top five medical schools in the nation and first in academic selectivity. Eighteen Nobel laureates have trained, taught, or carried out research here. Thirteen faculty members are fellows of the prestigious National Academy of Sciences, and 24 belong to its Institute of Medicine. Candidates must possess a M.D. or D.O. Board-certification or board-eligibility in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine is highly desirable. A successful candidate will have experience in clinical and laboratory aspects of hemostasis, including provision of clinical consultations, validation and implementation of new laboratory methods, excellent interpersonal skills, enthusiasm for teaching, and a collaborative attitude. Attending on the adult transfusion medicine service is possible depending on training. In addition, the individual is expected to participate in clinical, translational, or basic science research activities.
