The Department of Pathology & Immunology at Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM) seeks an exceptional scientist and neuropathologist to head the Division of Neuropathology, one of four divisions in the department. Reporting to the Department Chair, the Division Chief will lead six faculty members with expertise in clinical neuropathology and ongoing research in the areas of neurodegenerative diseases, retinal biology, neuro-oncology, and glial biology. They will oversee the Fellowship Program Director and will collaborate with our hospital partners, BJC HealthCare and St. Louis Children’s Hospital, in the delivery of clinical services.
We are seeking candidates with a history of funding and a strong publication track record in brain tumor (or related) research. The Division Chief will also be a member of the newly formed multi-disciplinary Brain Tumor Center at the Alvin J. Siteman Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Brain Tumor Center research laboratories will soon be relocating to their new home in the brand new 11-story, 609,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art Neuroscience Research Building (NRB), and it is anticipated that the new Division Chief’s lab will be co-located with the Brain Tumor Center labs in the NRB. The $620M building project is not only the largest in the history of WUSM but represents one of the largest research centers of its kind in the country. The NRB is adjacent to the CORTEX Innovation Community, one of the fastest-growing business, innovation, and technology hubs in the nation. This proximity will enable and strengthen collaborations between academic research and industry partners to rapidly translate fundamental science into advanced care for brain tumor patients.
In addition to working with the strong faculty within the Division and the Brain Tumor Center, the new Chief will have a wealth of clinical and scientific resources on which to build their own and the Division’s programs. WUSM, Barnes Jewish Hospital, and St. Louis Children’s Hospital have world-renowned clinical and scientific programs in adult and pediatric neurosurgery, neurology, neuro-oncology, and basic neurosciences. The Brain Immunology and Glial (BIG) Center, formed within the past 3 years, has already achieved international recognition for its groundbreaking research.

Qualifications
- MD, MD/PhD or equivalent degree and be an ABP neuropathology board-certified neuropathologist with experience in diagnostics, education, and basic science/translational research.
- Candidates should be tenure-eligible or currently hold a tenured position, preferably at the rank of Associate or Professor.
- A track record of and current NIH (or equivalent) grant funding as well as a strong publication track record in brain tumor or related research.
