Clinical Director Labor and Delivery (L&D) Anesthesia

The Department of Anesthesiology at Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM) is seeking a Clinical Director to oversee the clinical anesthesia operations in the Labor and Delivery (L&D) suite at Barnes Jewish Hospital (BJH). In this exciting opportunity, you will join a dedicated group of 6 OB Anesthesiology faculty, 5 float Anesthesiology faculty, 15 CRNAs, 2 OB Anesthesiology Fellows, and 3 Administrators.

 

We are searching for a Clinical Director of L&D Anesthesiology to oversee a high acuity L&D practice with exceptional quality, safety, and patient satisfaction. The Division of OB Anesthesiology provides anesthesia care for approximately 3500 deliveries at BJH, and 1750 deliveries at Missouri Baptist Medical Center. Aside from contributing to the Department’s mission of delivering outstanding health care, the Director furthers WUSM and WUDA’s mission of educating tomorrow’s leaders by having the L&D floor serve as a hub for the OB Anesthesiology Fellowship program. The L&D Anesthesia Director works regularly with CRNAs, Fellows, Residents, and SRNAs.

 

Administratively, the Director sets and revises safety standards of care in collaboration with the Division Chief of OB Anesthesiology and the leadership of the Department of Obstetrics. The Director is responsible for the implementation of new care pathways and clinical protocols and for developing new processes and implementing system-wide change. The division and department are focused on creating an efficient service line, with increased quality and safety, and exceptional patient care experience.

 

The parent Department of Anesthesiology has 175 faculty members and is a national and international leader in diverse areas of research.  There are many faculty development opportunities in education, research, patient safety and administration.  The medical center is geographically located in a beautiful setting next to Forest Park, a 1300-acre facility that is one of the largest urban parks in the United States! St. Louis is a livable city with multiple eclectic neighborhoods, a healthy arts environment, a burgeoning foodie scene as well as nationally ranked professional baseball, soccer and hockey teams.

Fellowship in OB Anesthesia is required.

Appointment is contingent upon having a Missouri Medical License, DEA number, BNDD number and submitting to and passing a background check and drug screen, in addition to being fully credentialed by our hospitals (MBMC, BJH), and maintaining compliance with medical staff policies, including having all mandatory vaccinations. WUSM has the following mandatory training requirements for clinical faculty in order to meet regulatory requirements and promote quality patient care:

HIPAA Compliance - one time, online course

Billing Compliance - annually, online course

Risk Management Training- one time, online course

Expert Witness Code of Conduct - one time, signed affirmation statement required

Previous administrative experience preferred but not mandatory.
