Pulmonologist with Pulmonary Vascular interests

The Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis is seeking to hire a Clinical Pulmonologist with interest in Pulmonary Vascular Disorders, including Pulmonary Hypertension, acute/chronic Thromboembolic disease and Vascular Biology at the Assistant or Associate level. The selected candidate will be part of a dynamic team of committed academic physicians working at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and within the BJC Health network.

The primary responsibility of the faculty candidate will be caring for a large and growing population of pulmonary hypertension patients.  This is a unique opportunity to practice at the only accredited Pulmonary Hypertension Care Center in Missouri that draws patients from Missouri, Illinois and Arkansas.  Our core team includes physicians, APP, nurse coordinators, pharmacist and social worker. The candidate will help cover a busy pulmonary hypertension inpatient service at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, attend 2-3 outpatient clinics weekly, and take virtual pulmonary embolism response team (PERT) call. This attending physician will participate in multi-disciplinary conferences with Radiology, Adult Congenital Cardiology, and the chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) team, while contributing to a busy clinical trials and therapeutics program. 

 

Within the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, this faculty member will supervise fellows and residents, while also working closely with the Lung Transplant team, interstitial lung disease (ILD) Clinic, post-pulmonary embolism (PE) clinic and Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT) Center of Excellence. The faculty member will enjoy close collegial relationships and support from Cardiology, Adult Congenital Heart Disease Center, Pediatric Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Cardiac Anesthesia, Rheumatology, Hepatology/Liver Transplant, Thoracic Radiology, Nuclear Radiology and Vascular Interventional Radiology. 

 

Interventions performed on site:

  • Pulmonary Thromboendarterectomy 
  • Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty
  • Atrial septostomy
  • Percutaneous atrial septal defect closure
  • Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVM) embolization
  • Pulmonary artery and vein stenting
  • •     Veno-arterial (VA) and veno-venous (VV) extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)

     

    Ongoing clinical research includes 10-15 active clinical trials, 4-5 registries with industry, NIH, and/or foundation support. Research team includes several dedicated clinical coordinators.

     

    There will be protected time for academic and research activities, depending on applicant interests and accomplishments. Salary will be based on candidate's work experience and expected productivity. Requirements and Essential Functions

 

  • Board Certified/Board Eligible Pulmonary Disease / Critical Care Medicine
  • Successful completion of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship
          Desire and ability to participate in teaching with protected time for clinical research and publications if desired.
