General Surgery – Surgical Oncology
Commensurate w/Experience
Assistant or Associate Professor of Surgery (General Surgery)
The Section of Surgical Oncology in the Department of Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine is seeking an academic surgical oncologist to join its faculty in St. Louis, Missouri. This position would serve as Director of the Peritoneal Surface Malignancy Program and lead the multidisciplinary HIPEC program at Siteman Cancer Center, caring for patients with diseases that affect this patient population. A candidate would also be expected to have non-HIPEC interests (e.g. melanoma, retroperitoneal sarcoma, GI cancers) and will work closely with members of our multi-specialty solid tumor program (HPB surgery, colorectal surgery) at the Alvin J. Siteman Comprehensive Cancer Center.
This position is ideally suited to an individual with the experience and a vision to lead our peritoneal surface malignancy program. The candidate would also have the potential to develop a translational research program in peritoneal surface malignancies that leverages pre-clinical models and our clinical enterprise to obtain extramural funding, develop novel diagnostics, therapeutics, and investigator-initiated trials in this area. This may be a primary interest of this position or developed with other faculty and scientific collaborators. Our peritoneal surface malignancy currently performs 30-50 HIPEC procedures annually with projected opportunity for growth of 10-20% annually. Opportunities for expansion of this program into non-colorectal malignancies (e.g. ovarian/GYN, gastric) present other areas for growth within our medical center.
This full-time faculty position is designed for a surgical oncologist with a track record of accomplishment in peritoneal surface malignancies. The successful applicant will join the Washington University School of Medicine Department of Surgery in the Section of Surgical Oncology within the Division of General Surgery. This role will require significant interaction with a multidisciplinary team of individuals, including other surgical oncology specialties and medical oncology faculty and trainees, as we seek to grow our surgical oncology and peritoneal surface malignancy program of excellence across our department, cancer center, and region. Metrics for success will be tailored to individual applicants clinical and academic areas of focus, including clinical program development, scholarship, success in extramural funding, and enhancing the educational mission of our group.
Faculty title(s), rank, and breakdown of responsibilities (clinical, academic, and teaching) will be commensurate with the qualifications and background of the candidates.
