Section Head-Adult Epilepsy

The Section Head, Adult Epilepsy reports directly to the Department Chair and will have significant leadership responsibility to oversee all administrative and financial matters and to define and implement the educational, research/scholarly, and clinical service missions of the section.

Comprised of seven faculty members, the Adult Epilepsy Section provides comprehensive clinical care using cutting-edge technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with seizures and epilepsy.  In close collaboration with neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, and neuropsychologists, the epileptologists offer a complete range of diagnostic and treatment options, including antiseizure medications, implantable seizure-control devices and surgery. The Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Comprehensive Epilepsy Center is a certified Center of Excellence and is the largest epilepsy surgery center in the region with an eight-bed epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU) that is expandable to 12 beds.  Long-Term Video Monitoring patient days exceed 3000 annually. The center is classified as a Level 4 Epilepsy Center, with the highest level of patient care standards for the treatment of epilepsy.


Qualified candidates will possess an MD, DO or MD/PhD, board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), be certified in epilepsy or neurophysiology by the ABPN, and holding, or qualified to obtain, an unrestricted license to practice medicine in Missouri are required.  The Section Head will be a faculty member in the Department of Neurology at the rank of Associate Professor or above, be an accomplished clinician educator with strong leadership skills, and possess a track-record as an independently funded research scientist.  The Section Head must be able to function at a high managerial level in a complex health care organization.
