CARDIOLOGY: Faculty – Critical Care Cardiology
The Cardiovascular Division, Department of Medicine, Washington University School of Medicine is a national leader in the delivery of high-quality cardiovascular care to a large, diverse patient population with a range of cardiovascular care needs, in training the next generation of leaders in cardiovascular medicine, and in conducting basic, translational, clinical, and population research to improve cardiovascular outcomes.
To expand its cardiac critical care practice, the Division is seeking cardiac intensivists at all ranks (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor) to join our current team. The Cardiac ICU is located at the Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Heart & Vascular Center, and was one of the first of its kind in the US. Employing the latest technology with compassionate concern, we care for the largest number of cardiac patients in the region and deliver excellent patient outcomes. The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit has become a referral center for the most complex cases from around the Midwest. Barnes-Jewish Hospital was one of only 17 hospitals nationally, and the only hospital in Missouri, with heart attack survival rates that exceed the national average.
The Cardiovascular Division has one of the largest programs for comprehensive cardiac care in the Midwest, encompassing the full range of cardiology and its subspecialties. The division includes an extensive network of collaborative services, including advanced cardiac imaging, cardiothoracic surgery, electrophysiology and arrhythmia management, interventional cardiology, cardio-oncology, adult congenital heart disease, high risk obstetrics/maternal cardiology, pulmonary hypertension, and advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation. The one year advanced fellowship in cardiac critical care aims to continue to grow and advance this specialty. The Division supports a large number of clinical research investigations and clinical trials.
The candidate should be an MD or DO board-certified in adult cardiovascular disease and either board certified in critical care or with commensurate experience managing critically ill cardiovascular patients with high disease acuity. Responsibilities include patient care in CICU, fellow training and education, as well scholarly and research pursuits within the division.
