Biophotonics Faculty Opportunities
The Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR) invites applications from outstanding Ph.D., D.Sc. and/or M.D. candidates in the physical sciences, engineering, or medicine for tenure-track faculty positions at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. We are seeking talented investigators to initiate and lead highly innovative research programs in Biophotonics. Major research areas of interest include, but not limited to:
• Optical diagnostic and theranostic agents: optically active molecular reporters for deep tissue imaging, near and shortwave infrared fluorescent, Raman, small molecules, nanoparticles, conjugates, genetic encoded reporters (e.g., genetically encoded calcium indicators), optogenetics.
• High-throughput light sheet microscopy, clearing agents, transcriptomics, 3D non-destructive pathology.
• Wearable biophotonics and small form factor electro-optical device development.
• Endoscopy, catheter-based imaging, sensor development, and implantable devices.
The selected candidates will be part of the Biophotonics Research Center (BRC). We encourage diversity to reflect the rich community in which we live and serve, and we are committed to promoting an environment that is inclusive and welcoming to all individuals. The BRC is housed in the MIR and consists of multiple principal investigators (8) and over 70 students, postdoctoral fellows, staff, and clinical fellows that provide a collaborative environment for diverse interdisciplinary research initiatives. BRC investigators are pioneers in the development and application of molecular imaging probes, spectroscopy, imaging systems, and theranostic systems. Current research applications include cancer imaging and treatment, optical neuroimaging, and imaging neuropathy, arthritis, inflammation, viral and bacterial imaging, imaging treatment response. More information about the BRC can be found here: mir.wustl.edu/brc. The selected candidates will be encouraged to establish viable collaborations with the faculty of the BRC as well as faculty in throughout the Biophotonics community at Washington University in St. Louis.
MIR is an international leader in future-driven education and groundbreaking research. MIR is deeply committed to distinction in teaching and learning and excellence in research, being consistently ranked one of the top Diagnostic Radiology Departments for NIH funding. It has a highly productive, extensive, and collaborative research program based on modern scientific disciplines. Faculty and trainees of MIR have access to world-class research support facilities including Center for High Performance Computing, Shared Data Storage, Central Neuroimaging Data Archive, Neuroimaging Informatics Analysis Center, Center for Clinical Imaging Research, Cyclotron Facility, MRI Facility and Pre-Clinical Imaging Facility, Optical Imaging Facility, and Siteman Cancer Center Core facilities, Center for Clinical Imaging Research, and the Center for Cellular Imaging. Additional details about MIR and its research environment can be found at https://www.mir.wustl.edu/research.
WUSM is a world-class research-intensive academic health center that is consistently ranked among the nation’s research-oriented medical schools. Additionally, it is nationally known for its attractive campus, which borders residential neighborhoods and one of the nation’s largest urban parks. St. Louis is consistently rated a Forbes most affordable city with vibrant music, food, and park scene, and has one of the fastest growing start-up communities with impressive accelerator and incubator services available through the Biogenerator, Cambridge Innovation Center, and Cortex Innovation District.
Eligible candidates will have Ph.D., D.Sc. and/or M.D. For each position, rank and tenure status will be commensurate with experience. It is expected that the applicants will have a strong track record of publications and success in external funding through grants and contracts. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a multi-disciplinary, rigorous, and extramurally funded research program interfacing with the MIR’s research labs, translational imaging facilities and WUSM.
