Assistant Professor / Associate Professor – Tenure Track Faculty Position – Division of Neurotechnology

Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM) and the Division of Neurotechnology invite applications for new faculty positions.  Primary appointments will be on the tenure track within the Department of Neurosurgery at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The successful candidate will develop and lead a vibrant, independent, collaborative, and cutting-edge research program and share our commitment to undergraduate and graduate education by supervising post-doctoral, graduate, and undergraduate research and teaching courses. The applicant’s research program should be broadly focused on neuroengineering, including but not limited to the fundamental understanding of brain physiology and it application towards neural interfaces for the treatment of disease; motor disability; stroke; and/or neuropsychiatric disorders.

Over the last decade, WUSM has markedly expanded its neurotechnology program and has many clinicians, scientists, and engineers from neurosurgery, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, neuroscience, anesthesia, and radiology focusing on applied neuroscience for the treatments of disease. There are many NIH-funded researchers who investigate various aspects of invasive or non-invasive brain physiology, brain/neuro interfaces, and advanced imaging. In FY20 this brain tumor investigator group created the first FDA approved brain computer interface. The newly established Division of Neurotechnology is the epicenter for the new and emerging engineered solutions to treat disease ranging from stroke, chronic pain, brain tumors, spinal cord injury, depression, and other neuropsychiatric disorders. It is a focal point for the most innovative and cutting-edge research for applied neuroscience across the medical center.

WUSM is a global leader in a wide range of frontier research arenas across its basic science and clinical departments. WUSM has deep research strengths in the rapidly evolving area of neuroengineering and is also leading the way in imaging research and computational neuroscience. Furthermore, with the unique size and breadth of neurosciences at the university, there is a wealth of opportunities for collaboration both within the School of Medicine and across the campus. The successful applicant will build on the campus-wide excellence in basic neuroscience, advanced MR imaging, and material science to develop a world-class neurotechnology program.

Candidates are expected to have had graduate training in engineering or neuroscience and a Ph.D., MD, or an equivalent degree in the field of engineering, neuroscience, or material science.

Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and a research statement (2-4 pages). Application materials should be submitted in PDF format, addressed to the Division of Neurotechnology Search Committee, and sent to: ajuliana@wustl.edu. In addition, applicants should indicate the names and contact information of three referees who will provide letters of recommendation on their behalf.

Application screening will begin on May 1st, 2022.

Questions should be emailed with the subject header “Division of Neurotechnology Faculty Search Question” to ajuliana@wustl.edu.
