Director, Medical Critical Care (MICU)
The Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of Medical Critical Care (MICU). Reporting to the Division Chief and working in collaboration with hospital physician and nurse leadership, the MICU Director provides leadership for quality and patient safety initiatives as well as administrative duties for one of the largest critical care programs in the nation. The successful candidate will have exciting opportunities to develop strategies to improve ICU care, engage in cutting edge basic and clinical research, and contribute to novel educational programs.
Established 60 years ago, the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care today is comprised of over 30 physicians and approximately 12 advanced practice providers. The division has ACGME-accredited fellowship training programs in Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine and Critical Care Medicine and receives approximately $16M annually in extramural research funding. Faculty collaborate extensively on research projects with faculty outside of the division, including the Institute for Informatics where there is ongoing research in AI.
Faculty provide high quality care to patients in critical care units of 1400-bed Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Barnes-Jewish Hospital, the primary teaching hospital for Washington University School of Medicine, is a Level I Trauma Center caring for 80,000 patients annually. The MICU is divided into two adjacent areas with a 19-bed unit and a 24-bed unit. There is also a 13-bed Stem Cell Transplant/Oncology ICU in the Siteman Cancer Center.
For this leadership position, we are seeking a rising academic physician leader with a solid foundation of clinical care, teaching experience, and/or scholarly productivity. Candidates should possess strong leadership and collaboration skills; the ability to work within multi-disciplinary teams is essential. An endowed professorship is available for highly qualified candidates.
Qualified candidates must hold board certification in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine or the equivalent training and certification with an MD degree and should be at or above the Assistant Professor rank.
