Summary: The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Washington University School of Medicine is recruiting a visionary medical physicist with a proven record of accomplishment in development of educational, research, and clinical programs to lead its Medical Physics Division. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing, developing, and leading all aspects of our medical physics division and will have active roles in leadership of our department and the network of radiotherapy services.
Environment: The medical physics division currently has over 40 ABR certified medical physicists, including over 30 faculty positions, for support of our clinical operations, research, and educational activities. The division has over 60 other members consisting of medical physics assistants, QA technicians, residents, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, and staff. The Department of Radiation Oncology supports a state-of-the-art clinic located at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Siteman Cancer Center, as well as several clinical affiliates. Clinical resources are extensive with one of the most technologically diverse and up to date radiation oncology departments in the world. The excellence in technological resources stems from the legacy in the development and implementation of novel technologies and procedures in the constant pursuit of furthering the field of radiation oncology. To that end, the department is credited with many first of a kind technologies and breakthroughs in our field. The department supports several education programs, including the longest-standing CAMPEP accredited medical physics residency and a newly formed Master of Science in medical physics program. Research infrastructure and funding are diverse and the research support resources are outstanding. The department offers highly productive collaboration opportunities with our clinical and cancer biology colleagues as well as university wide collaboration opportunities across various departments in medical and other schools. Long time relationships with several industry partners are outstanding and significantly contribute to the department’s ability to consistently further our field. There are currently several significant international projects and collaborations.
The successful candidate must have 10 years in leading both academic and clinical programs with a proven track record of developing and growing education, research, and clinical services as well as in developing nationally and internationally recognized medical physics talent. Must have a successful record of research accomplishments including intra and extra-mural funding including NIH RO1 funding and a commitment to continued pursuit of such funding. Must be certified by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Medical Physics or equivalent.
