Chief, Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine

Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, one of the finest medical schools in the country, is seeking a highly motivated Chief for the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Ultrasound.  The OB/GYN department at Washington University is nationally recognized, with outstanding fellowship programs, and extensive clinical and basic science research opportunities.

The division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Ultrasound includes 12 faculty members, 7 fellows, and 1 nurse practitioner.  We perform approximately 4,000 deliveries at Barnes Jewish Hospital, the main teaching facility at Washington University.  Maternal-Fetal Medicine faculty staff labor and delivery as well as the antepartum unit and also have a robust consultative and full-MFM care outpatient practice. We have a state-of-the-art prenatal diagnosis facility that performs over 16,000 ultrasounds a year and is staffed by 17 OB-GYN specialty sonographers. We are an academically active division with fellow and resident teaching and multiple faculty members with varied academic interests including clinical research, patient safety, and basic and translational research. We have multiple formal clinical and research collaborations with other departments at Washington University including cardiology/cardio-obstetrics, critical care, and substance use/psychiatry to provide multidisciplinary cutting-edge care for the high-risk pregnant patients of our region.

We primarily see patients for outpatient visits in two locations (on the main medical school campus and at nearby Missouri Baptist Medical Center).   Our practice also includes a specialized clinic for pregnancies affected by fetal anomalies The Fetal Care Center. This Center is a collaborative effort with our colleagues at St. Louis Children’s Hospital (SLCH). We have the full complement of support services including genetic counseling, ultrasound, antepartum fetal testing services, and diabetes education available for all of our patients. We provide genetic amniocentesis, CVS, cordocentesis, first trimester aneuploidy screening, and collaborate closely with SLCH neonatologists in our Level IV NICU.

The candidate should have formal training in maternal-fetal medicine and possess excellent communication, clinical and teaching skills.

Duties include leading and managing the administrative, financial, research and clinical operations for the Division.  In coordination with the Chair of the Department, develop a comprehensive strategy and plan for the growth and development of the division’s clinical, educational and research activities.  Responsibilities also include development of the Division’s faculty with emphasis on quality, compassionate patient care and innovative research.  The MFM Division Chief would also foster an environment of collaboration with our partner hospitals while executing the goals for the Women’s and Infants program.  The candidate will participate in the comprehensive prenatal care for pregnancies complicated by maternal or fetal disease, and diagnostic ultrasonography.
