Surgeon in Training, Maternal-Fetal Medicine
Washington University School of Medicine is seeking an experienced Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist to join our nationally recognized full-service Fetal Care Center as a Fetal Surgeon in Training. The Fetal Care Center at the Women & Infants Center at Barnes Jewish Hospital combines the best of three world class medical institutions – Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis Children’s Hospital, and Washington University Physicians. Expertise at the Fetal Care Center includes specialists in diagnostic ultrasound, fetal surgery, high-risk pregnancy, and newborn and pediatric care. We offer collaborative, compassionate and specialized care for women and their families whose pregnancies are complicated by fetal anomalies and pregnancies complicated by conditions that are amenable to intrauterine surgery.
Barnes-Jewish Hospital is the main teaching facility on the Washington University Medical School campus. The Fetal Care Center is a specialized state-of-the-art prenatal diagnosis facility with a dedicated group of specially trained sonographers. Additional imaging expertise exists with the Fetal Heart Program and Fetal MRI in St. Louis Children’s Hospital. A specially designed Fetal Surgery operating room was included in the construction of the new Women’s & Infants Center at Barnes Jewish Hospital. Pediatric and neonatal care is provided by the St. Louis Children’s Hospital, one of the top children’s hospitals in the country.
Faculty academic appointment will be in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Washington University School of Medicine has a strong research presence and ranks 4th nationally in NIH funding for 2020. The Fetal Care Center is a member of NAFNet.
Candidates for this unique position must hold Board Certification in Obstetrics & Gynecology have completed fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine and possess advanced skills in ultrasound and fetal diagnosis. Additional hands-on training in complex fetal diagnosis and fetal surgery under the direction of nationally recognized fetal surgeon, Dr. Michael Bebbington, will highlight this opportunity with graded increase in responsibilities over the period of at least one year. The highly-motivated candidate should also possess excellent obstetric clinical, teaching and communication skills, and feel comfortable practicing in an evidence-based academic environment with students, Residents, Fellows, and colleagues.
