Genitourinary Pathologist
The Department of Pathology and Immunology at Washington University School of Medicine is seeking a pathologist to join its Genitourinary Pathology section on the Clinician or Investigator track. The section is currently staffed by four pathologists and receives ~4000 specimens per year, including biopsies, resections and consults. The Department as a whole receives approximately 70,000 surgical pathology specimens per year and operates on a subspecialty model.
The Department (http://pathology.wustl.edu/): The Department of Pathology & Immunology excels in basic and clinical research as well as delivery of outstanding pathology and laboratory medicine services. In 2015, the department moved to a new facility at the center of the Washington University Medical Campus. The Department provides a supportive environment for research and teaching. Across nine AP fellowships, six CP fellowships, and the core residency program, there are a total of 66 GME trainees. A combined genitourinary and medical renal fellowship is being implemented by 2021.
The School (http://medicine.wustl.edu): U.S. News & World Report ranks WUSM among the top ten in the nation and first in academic selectivity. Eighteen Nobel laureates have trained or carried out research here. Thirteen faculty members are fellows of the National Academy of Sciences, and 24 belong to the Academy of Medicine. WUSM is third among U.S. medical schools in grants received from the National Institutes of Health ($449 million in 2018).
The City: St. Louis is an urban center of diversity, culture, and entrepreneurship within a metro area of 2.6 million. The region offers affordable housing, unique neighborhoods, and convenient transportation. The city is dotted with numerous excellent restaurants, especially in the nearby neighborhoods of the Central West End and Tower Grove. Excellent public and private schools are located in the area, as are many family-friendly activities, including the zoo, science center, Magic House children’s museum, Laumeier sculpture park, and community swimming pools. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy Cardinals baseball games and 2019 Stanley Cup Champion Blues hockey. Summertime brings a number of annual outdoor festivals. There is easy access to outdoor recreation opportunities.
Criteria: Candidates must possess M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degrees as well as certification in Anatomic and/or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology through the American Board of Pathology. Fellowship training or special expertise in genitourinary pathology is required. The successful candidate will have demonstrated competence in independently managing complex genitourinary cases. Academic productivity in the area of genitourinary pathology is required. In addition, interest and experience in a second area of surgical pathology is desirable. The candidate is expected to have excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as interest in education of medical students and residents, fellows, and, as appropriate, research fellows and post-docs.
