Division Chief, Medical Education and General Medicine

The Division Chief, Medical Education / General Medicine will be charged with leading the very successful division of Medical Education and expanding General Medicine training and activities within the Department of Medicine. The division chief will promote excellence in clinical practice, teaching and research. 

The division chief will be recognized as an outstanding leader in Medical Education and/or General Medicine in clinical, research or education domains.  The division chief will oversee the inpatient and outpatient clinical enterprises of the division including potential expansion of high quality, accessible patient care to support the academic training and research mission. The chief provides oversight of the faculty and staff who support student, resident and faculty-training programs housed within and supported by the division including the primary care residency-training program, the resident clinic, the general medicine inpatient rotations, and the internal medicine clerkship and sub-internship.

The division is currently home to multiple general medicine physicians and physician educators with leadership roles in undergraduate, graduate and continuing medical education. The chief will promote and support educational scholarship and research activities within the division; areas of potential interest for the department and the division include health services research, implementation science, health disparities in urban and rural communities, and health professions education.  The division chief also oversees all administrative functions of the division including administrative and financial operations and coordinates the infrastructure that supports the administration of the division.

Qualified candidates must be certified by the ABIM and hold an MD or equivalent degree and should be at or above the Associate Professor rank.  The successful candidate will be a visionary leader in medical education and general internal medicine, renowned for clinical excellence and have demonstrated a commitment to medical education and promoting scholarship/research opportunities for students, residents and faculty members. 

Candidates should have significant leadership experience and mentoring skills necessary to support and grow the division. Research interests in undergraduate and graduate medical education, health services research, implementation science, and health disparities in urban and rural communities are valued. The ability to recruit, develop, mentor and manage professional faculty and staff across the clinical, research and education missions is essential.
