Associate Professor

Chief Medical Officer, St. Louis Children’s Hospital

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for St. Louis Children’s Hospital (SLCH) will focus on attaining the best outcomes for the pediatric community locally, regionally and nationally.

In collaboration with leadership from SLCH, BJC HealthCare, and Washington University School of Medicine, the CMO will lead, direct, and oversee clinical initiatives including clinical quality, quality performance improvement, patient safety and related programs, participate in the education of the next generation of child health leaders, and contribute to the development of innovative, child-focused strategies to improve outcomes.

With the Vice President for Clinical Services, the CMO will lead development and implementation of sustainable systems and processes that enhance SLCH’s national reputation for providing the highest quality pediatric care as defined by patient safety, patient satisfaction, timely access to care, efficient processes, and optimal outcomes. The CMO will engage and align physicians with the community and academic medical center to promote a culture of safe and patient centered care.

MD degree with board certification in a specialty recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties is required. A specialty or sub-specialty in the field of pediatric medicine is preferred.

 

A master’s degree in public health, healthcare administration or a related field is preferred.

Experience in clinical practice for 10-15 years and in hospital wide leadership roles for 8-10 years in a complex academic environment.

Experience in developing and implementing evidence based practices, familiarity with IHI principles, advanced training in Quality Improvement Methodology and Epidemiology, and experience in implementation of Lean Operating Systems. Experience interfacing with other executives within a large academic campus, including Department Chairs, Division Chiefs, other CMOs and hospital presidents is desired. Experience in triaging and resolving physician professionalism issues and in implementing large new programs such as implementation of an electronic health record and experience in participating in national collaborative to improve quality in pediatrics are desired.

Demonstrated ability to effect change in a complex academic environment. Experience leading physicians through a successful transformational change is desired.
