CARDIOLOGY: Faculty – General Cardiology

The Cardiovascular Division, Department of Medicine, Washington University School of Medicine is a national leader in the delivery of high-quality cardiovascular care to a large, diverse patient population with a range of cardiovascular care needs, in training the next generation of leaders in cardiovascular medicine, and in conducting basic, translational, clinical, and population research to improve cardiovascular outcomes.

To expand its outpatient practice, the Division is seeking general and preventative cardiologists at all ranks (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor).  The Division has one of the largest programs for comprehensive cardiac care in the Midwest, encompassing the full range of cardiology and its subspecialties. The general cardiology group incorporates practices at the Center for Advanced Medicine, and its two outreach sites in West and South St. Louis County, and contributes to inpatient cardiology care in the CCU, high-risk cardiology service, and the cardiology consultation service. A leadership position as Lead Physician for the West County practice is available for an appropriately qualified individual. The West County practice is closely linked with the Heart Care Institute, which houses an outpatient cardiac catheterization laboratory, cardiac diagnostic laboratory (including echocardiography, nuclear studies and SPECT imaging, vascular imaging, and cardiopulmonary stress testing), and comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation facility.

The practice is supported by an extensive network of collaborative services, including advanced cardiac imaging, cardiothoracic surgery, electrophysiology and arrhythmia management, interventional cardiology, cardio-oncology, adult congenital heart disease, high risk obstetrics/maternal cardiology, pulmonary hypertension, and advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation. The general cardiovascular disease fellowship trains nine fellows a year, and also has several fellows undergoing training via the physician-scientist training pathway. The Division supports a large number of clinical research investigations and clinical trials.

The candidate should be an MD or DO board-certified in adult cardiovascular disease and should be well-versed in ambulatory general cardiology. Interest in cardiac imaging, including 2-D transthoracic, transesophageal, 3D, and stress echocardiography is desirable. Inpatient cardiology time and diagnostic cardiac catheterization interest can be accommodated.
