Professor Cardiothoracic Surgery

The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine is seeking a full-time faculty member.  The faculty member will be practicing at Christian Hospital will also have an appointment at our major teaching hospital, Barnes Jewish Hospital. A founding member of BJC HealthCare, Christian Hospital is located in north St. Louis County, approximately 10 miles from Washington University Medical Center.  Christian Hospital is a 220-staffed-bed general acute-care community hospital, with more than 1,800 employees.  It was the first community hospital in St. Louis to start a cardiac surgery program, in 1983.  The cardiothoracic surgery program at Christian Hospital is exclusively run by the Washington University cardiothoracic faculty. 

 

As part of Washington University Medical Center, one of the nation’s largest clinical and biomedical research facilities, the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery is one of the world’s largest, most experienced, cardiothoracic practices.  The faculty includes 21 cardiothoracic surgeons, 16 critical care anesthesiology intensivist, 5 laboratory-based investigators and two Emeritus professors.  Founded in 1920 the division preformed over 3,100 adult cardiothoracic surgical procedures in 2016 and is dedicated to providing the highest quality and innovative care for patients while offering stimulating educational opportunities for fellows.

The successful candidate will be board certified/eligible and will have completed an ACGME cardiac surgery residency program.

Ability to perform the entire spectrum of adult cardiothoracic surgery is preferred.  While the primary focus of this position will be clinical cardiac surgery, candidates must have a strong commitment to the education of cardiac and general surgery residents.  The ideal candidate will be an excellent clinician with a strong interest in teaching and program development. The candidate will be encouraged and supported by the division to engage in research; if so desired.
