Director of Spine Research

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Division of Spine Surgery at Washington University in St. Louis has an immediate need for a Director of Spine Research. Research programs in the division have a long history of contribution and focus on the patho-mechanisms and treatment strategies for spine-related diseases. The Director will work collaboratively with spine division faculty members and will lead a research team that includes study coordinators, research fellows, clinical fellows, residents, and students. Candidates should have experience in the design of clinical studies and trials.  Candidates will need skills in protocol development, data acquisition and analysis, grant writing, presentations, and manuscript preparation.

 

Specific responsibilities would include:

 

  • Maintenance of a complex spine database for children and adults that includes clinical information, radiographs and patient reported outcomes.

  • Oversight of data entry and retrieval in an electronic format.

  • Grant writing.

  • Designing clinical studies with the attending spine surgeons.

  • Supervising fellows in their research.

  • Data and bio-statistics analysis.

  • Writing manuscripts and grants.

  • Submitting abstracts to national and international meetings.

  • Attending and presenting at major deformity meetings such as SRS and IMAST, etc.

Preferred candidates will have an advanced degree, such as a PhD in epidemiology, life sciences, statistics, bioengineering or a related field.  Candidates should have experience working in clinical research in an academic setting.

Spine experience would be beneficial.
