The McDonnell Genome Institute at Washington University in Saint Louis is looking for a talented bioinformatics scientist to work with a dedicated team of researchers investigating Cancer Genomics. Our group develops and applies computational tools to help understand the origins and progression of cancer. We specialize in translating large-scale sequence data (genomic DNA, RNA-seq, and bisulfite-seq, among others) into insight about how to better detect cancer, predict its response to therapy, and treat patients.
We are seeking an individual that can work in tandem with oncologists to probe the genomics of tumorigenesis, relapse, and clonal evolution in response to therapy. This work will include development of new algorithms, statistical tests, and visualizations that provide insight into the biology of cancer. Other portions of their your may be spend analyzing and interpreting cases from our clinical sequencing group, in an environment where your work may directly influence patient care.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Take a leadership role in collaborations with other groups here at WUSTL, aiding in design of analysis plans for sequencing-based projects studying the genetics and epigenetics of cancer. This is likely to include research into the genomics of tumor clonality, progression, treatment response and other cancer-related studies.
- Cooperation with computer scientists to evaluate and extend analysis pipelines for analysis of high throughput sequencing data.
- Interpretation of genetic and epigenetic changes in cancer including mutations, gene expression data from RNAseq, epigenetic modification, copy number and structural variation
- Integrated pathway and gene network analysis related to cancer
- Interaction with teams of diverse internal and external collaborators including oncologists, computer scientists, biologists, and other geneticists/statisticians.
- Build and maintain collaborative programs spanning the MGI and Institute for Informatics, with an emphasis on supporting/enabling discovery science and/or precision medicine initiatives
- Ph.D. training in Bioinformatics or Genomics
- Some post-doctoral or post-degree research scientist experience.
- Proficiency in the unix shell and at least one scripting language (Perl, Python, Ruby, etc)
- Experience with statistical software packages such as R or SAS
- Experience analyzing large genomic data sets.
- Strong communication skills, a passion for science, and the ability to work effectively on individual projects, as well as part of interdisciplinary teams.
- Experience in a supervisory role is a plus
