Director of Abdominal Organ Transplant Anesthesiology

This is a crucial leadership position within the Division and the Department, as well as an exciting career opportunity for an energetic and enthusiastic individual. The Director will oversee the clinical, educational and research aspects of transplant anesthesia within the Division. S/he will work closely with the Chief of Anesthesiology to propel the transplant anesthesia fellowship forward, enhance the educational experience of residents on the rotation, develop new clinical protocols and foster research productivity. As such, the successful applicant for this position will have the opportunity to recruit new members to the anesthesia transplant team and promote broad and impactful multidisciplinary partnerships with other members of the team including surgeons, hepatologists and nurse practitioners and coordinators. Examples of resources available to achieve the goals of this position include seed research funding allocated through a competitive mechanism by both Barnes Jewish Hospital and the Department, a robust clinical and basic research infrastructure, an anesthesia-run simulation center, and logistical and administrative support. Leadership development and other personal advancement initiatives will be encouraged and supported. The Division provides perioperative anesthesia care for liver (~100/year), kidney (~220/year) and pancreatic (~15/year) transplants, in addition to major hepatobiliary (~100/year) and Whipple procedures (~120/year). The abdominal transplant program at BJH (Barnes Jewish Hospital) is among the best regarded in the country.

The ideal candidate will have a robust clinical experience in transplant anesthesia and demonstrated achievements in clinical, educational and/or research innovation. Both domestic and international candidates are encouraged to apply.
