INSTRUCTOR POSITION SUMMARY: Position oversees and coordinates complex clinical research studies; serves as a resource to provide comprehensive information to clinical research staff by promoting a smooth operation of clinical research; responsible for preparation of budgetary reports and ensures billing and regulatory compliance standards are maintained; may supervise clinical research staff PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential Functions) 1. Assists in protocol development, budget development, dispensing of study funds for multi-clinical research projects; provides high level of direct and indirect support 2. May work as PI or with PI to design, perform, and evaluate research procedures; confers with collaborators to assist in developing plans for research projects and discuss the interpretation of results; collaborates in the preparation of manuscripts for publications and preparation of grant proposals to sponsoring agencies; assists in the preparation of amendments to protocols and/or modifications to study design as appropriate 3. Serves as a resource to the clinical research staff, ensuring appropriate procedures, and explains policies and procedures; ensures that research projects are completed according to IRB and federal guidelines 4. Develops and implements policies and procedures; provides comprehensive direction to clinical research personnel; may participate in the hiring, training, and evaluation of clinical research staff 5. Provides Study Coordinator functions, oversight to project mangers and performs all duties associated with the coordination and implementation of clinical research study/projects, data collection, and the management of data generated by study protocols 6. Researches and recommends new methods and procedures to maintain standards and improve quality
MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Doctorate degree plus clinical and/or research experience. REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: PhD CRITICAL SKILLS AND EXPERTISE: Effective analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to communicate in oral and written form with all levels of personnel; ability to prioritize tasks in a diverse environment; must have demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills DECISION MAKING AND IMPACT: Subject matter expert for the execution of study protocol according to sponsoring agency, federal/state and local standards. FINANCIAL/OPERATIONAL IMPACT: Significant impact to budget and operational aspects of clinical research. CONTACTS: Internal – Ability to develop and maintain internal relationships with all levels of faculty and staff. Ability to develop and maintain external relationships with all levels of community and sponsoring agency contacts SUPERVISION: May provide supervision or support the clinical research team. Will receive supervision from PI or Clinical Research Manager
DRIVING MISSION AND SKILL SETS: The successful individual will be responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of research protocols among medically impaired populations. Demonstrable interest in driving, neurorehabilitation, technology, and geriatrics/gerontology is required. Strong willingness to collaborate with multidisciplinary faculty, facilitate the introduction of the simulation lab to investigators and clinicians, and exploration of novel technologies and methodologies is critical. Creative approaches to technological or health system challenges (e.g., participant targeting and recruitment), and face-to-face research experience with human subjects will be viewed positively. This individual must have excellent and versatile communication skills in all regards and experience with complex, multifaceted datasets and analytic strategies. The candidate will be required to supervise laboratory staff, respond to the vision of the laboratory director, interface with human studies, and prepare and submit grants and manuscripts. As a liaison to the clinical community and urban population served by the School of Medicine, experience with diverse population groups is mandatory. This one-year renewable appointment is viewed as an introduction to the School of Medicine, and a transition to Research Track faculty may be possible depending upon performance and promise. A PhD, MD, or equivalent professional degree in a relevant field is required.
