The Department of Anesthesiology, Washington University in St. Louis, invites applications for an immediately available Assistant Professor position in drug metabolism and transport. The opportunity is a leadership position in a laboratory studying basic, translational and clinical pharmacology involving hepatic and extrahepatic drug metabolism and transport, pharmacogenetics, drug interactions, and clinical effects, of anesthetics, analgesics and related drugs. The laboratory is also part of the new Center for Clinical Pharmacology, a joint program of the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. Major job responsibilities will include design and execution of in vitro drug metabolism and drug transport experiments, with particular emphasis on the brain and blood-brain barrier. Also includes development, validation and implementation of quantitative assays for small molecule drugs and metabolites and metabolite profiling for both laboratory and clinical studies, and analytical instrument management. Will train/supervise research staff and students. Active participation in publication and driving of future scientific directions is expected. Initial appointment will be as a Research Assistant Professor. The position is fully funded. The individual may have the opportunity, if desired, to develop their own independent research program, and at an applicable time to apply for a Tenure Track position, with appropriate institutional start-up support. Candidates must have a PhD, PharmD, or equivalent (Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics, etc), and at least 2 yr of postdoctoral experience.
Requires experience, accomplishment, and demonstrated productivity, through publications, drug metabolism and/or transport (ideally both), small molecule assay development and validation, and hands-on LC-MS-MS expertise (ABSciex/Shimadzu/Analyst). Individuals must be highly motivated, able to work independently and collaboratively, possess initiative and excellent project management abilities, excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills, and a desire to learn, lead, and expand their interests and expertise. Supervisory experience is highly desirable.
