Clinical Faculty - Full Time: Orthopedic Sports Medicine Surgeon

Position summary

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine is seeking a full-time orthopedic sports medicine surgeon to join its nationally recognized Sports Medicine Division.

The successful candidate will develop a high-volume academic sports medicine practice with a particular interest in hip arthroscopy. The position offers opportunities for clinical growth, resident and fellow education, research and participation in the continued development of the division’s regenerative medicine program.

Clinical responsibilities

The orthopedic sports medicine surgeon will:

  • ·         Develop and maintain a full-time academic sports medicine practice
  • ·         Build a clinical focus in hip arthroscopy
  • ·         Provide operative and nonoperative care for athletes and other active patients
  • ·         Work closely with specialists across the department’s 12 clinical divisions to provide comprehensive musculoskeletal care
  • ·         Participate in the continued growth of the regenerative medicine program
  • ·         Contribute to the clinical and academic activities of the Sports Medicine Division
  • ·         Support the continued growth and development of sports medicine services

    WashU Medicine Sports Medicine has a regional, national and international reputation for excellence in the operative and nonoperative care of active patients, including sports-related concussion care.

    Education and teaching responsibilities

    The faculty member will actively participate in orthopedic resident and fellow education, including:

  • ·         Clinical instruction and supervision
  • ·         Teaching in the operating room and outpatient setting
  • ·         Participation in conferences, journal clubs and other educational activities
  • ·         Mentorship of residents, fellows and medical students

    Research responsibilities

    The faculty member will conduct research based on their interests and academic goals. Areas may include:

  • ·         Clinical research
  • ·         Basic science
  • ·         Translational research
  • ·         Biomechanics
  • ·         Outcomes research

The department supports collaboration with researchers across Washington University School of Medicine. Experienced research coordinators and departmental resources are available to assist with research development and implementation.

 

Applicants must:

  • Have completed or be in the process of completing an accredited sports medicine fellowship
  • Be board certified or board eligible in orthopedic surgery
  • Be eligible to obtain a permanent Missouri medical license
  • Demonstrate a commitment to excellent patient care
  • Demonstrate an interest in resident, fellow and medical student education
  • Have an interest in clinical, basic science, translational, biomechanics or outcomes research
  • Work effectively within a multidisciplinary academic practice
