The Department of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine invites applications and nominations for the position of clinical Co-Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Medicine, the Clinical Co-Chief will oversee all clinical operations, clinical/translational research, ID fellowship training, ID undergraduate medical educational programs, and assume responsibility for administration, operations, faculty and fellow recruitment, faculty development, new program growth, scholarship, and clinical /translational research in the Division.  

The Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine, Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine is composed of clinical and basic science components led by two co-directors who work collaboratively to ensure the success of a fully integrated, multidisciplinary program. The successful candidate will be a visionary and strategic academic leader with a record of leadership, clinical research, clinical care, and teaching experience. We are seeking a diverse pool of applicants with a record of excellence in ID, strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, and demonstrated abilities to inspire, manage, mentor, and develop faculty and staff.

Qualified candidates should hold an MD, MD/PhD or equivalent degree and should be at or above the Associate Professor rank. MD and MD/PhD candidates should hold ABIM certification in Internal Medicine or the equivalent training and certification.

• Experience developing a vision and providing strategic direction with a strong record of clinical/translational  research, clinical care, teaching, and scholarship.
• Established, ongoing, and independent research portfolio.
• Experience with program growth/expansion.
• Adept at supporting trainees and faculty in scholarship, research, teaching, and clinical activities.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of faculty and staff.
• Demonstrated administrative skills including proactive communication and strategic/operational planning.
• Leadership style that supports collegiality, collaboration, and respect for diverse views.
• High level of personal integrity and professionalism in all interactions.
• Confidence in decision-making and capacity to identify, manage, and confront challenges.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
