CARDIOLOGY: Inaugural Director of the Section of General Cardiology

The Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, Washington University School of Medicine is a national leader in the delivery of high-quality cardiovascular care to a large, diverse patient population, in training the next generation of leaders in cardiovascular medicine, and in conducting research to understand disease mechanisms, develop new therapies, and improve cardiovascular outcomes.

The Division is seeking a mid-career or senior cardiologist at the Associate Professor or Professor level to serve as the Director of a new Section of General Cardiology within the Division. The Washington University is a high-volume center of clinical cardiology encompassing the full spectrum of general and subspecialty cardiology, with a robust ambulatory and consultative practice. Expansion of general cardiology and regional outreach is viewed as an integral part of our strategic plan for the growth of our inpatient and outpatient cardiology clinical programs.

The Section of General Cardiology will serve as an administrative resource for faculty who provide care for patients with a wide variety of cardiology conditions, and in doing so support the overall missions of the Division related to patient care, education and research. The Section of General Cardiology is anticipated to comprise several subsections, including general consultative and primary cardiology (inpatient and outpatient), cardiac imaging (echocardiography, cardiac MRI, cardiac CT, and nuclear cardiology), cardio-obstetrics, sports cardiology, preventive cardiology, and cardiac rehabilitation. The director of the Section will work with faculty and divisional leadership to develop the culture of the general cardiology, enhance cohesiveness, improve transparency, and facilitate advocacy for the group.

This new position will be an integral part of the Division and will be responsible for oversight and advocacy of the faculty within general cardiology. Candidates working across the spectrum of general cardiology are welcome to apply. The director will be responsible for providing operational leadership and for planning, developing, and directing patient care programs and assisting with education and faculty development within their assigned area of general cardiology. He/she will work closely with the leadership of the subsections as well with other areas where there is faculty crossover. The candidate will assist with general cardiology and faculty and APP recruitment within the Section.

Washington University and St Louis are recognized nationally and internationally for clinical care, and research in medicine, science and biotechnology. St. Louis offers four seasons with outstanding cultural and educational opportunities, and is a culturally diverse and family-oriented city.

Candidates should hold an M.D. or MD/PhD degree and board certification in cardiovascular disease.
