Siteman Cancer Center

Instructor/Assistant Professor

SITEMAN CANCER CENTER FACULTY POSITIONS (MULTIPLE VACANCIES)

The Siteman Cancer Center (SCC) at Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Hospital invites applications from scientists and physicians for multiple faculty positions focused on cancer research. While our focus is primarily at the Instructor or Assistant Professor levels, other ranks will be considered. We seek outstanding investigators who bring innovation to the study of cancer and its prevention and treatment. We are interested in faculty who have a strong interest in diversity, equity and inclusion through their teachings, research, service, or a combination of the three. Applicants should demonstrate high potential to establish independent research careers. Cancer research interests may include any level of scientific translation, from basic / bench science to public health and community engagement. Siteman Cancer Center encompasses faculty from four Schools at Washington University (Arts & Sciences, Brown School of Social Work and Public Health, Engineering & Applied Sciences, and Medicine), and from 20 Departments within the School of Medicine. As such, applicants from any specialty who are interested in conducting cancer research are encouraged to apply.

This cluster hire is a demonstration of our values-oriented investment in the diversification of the cancer research workforce. Selected candidates will have a home department, but will be expected to collaborate as a group, whether through professional development, research, or both. We are building a team across the translational spectrum and oncology-related disciplines to advance the momentum of research at Siteman Cancer Center.

The successful candidates will join a highly interactive group of faculty within the Siteman Cancer Center, located on the Washington University School of Medicine campus. Siteman Cancer Center offers an exceptionally collaborative environment, with strengths in many areas including cancer prevention, immunology, imaging, and genomics. Candidates will affiliate with a department and must meet departmental requirements. Exceptional technical resources are available in many areas, with state-of-the-art core facilities in cellular imaging, tissue procurement, flow cytometry, proteomics, genome engineering, immunomonitoring, community outreach and engagement, implementation science resources, animal facilities, and Siteman’s seven research programs, amongst others.

We aim to recruit a small, multidisciplinary cohort of exceptional scientists who will contribute to our climate of collegiality, collaborative interactions, academic excellence, and diversity, as well as our strong commitment to teaching and mentoring, which enhances our efforts to build and maintain a diverse research community. Applicants must have a PhD, MD, or equivalent advanced degree, a strong record of research productivity, and show evidence or potential of the ability to develop and sustain an independent research team. Those with clinical qualifications are encouraged to apply, and should include a brief description of their clinical training and service.

New faculty hires resulting from this program will be surrounded by a comprehensive support infrastructure including sponsors, mentors, career coaches, institutional research navigators, and professional development opportunities to help them mitigate the difficulties often experienced by early-career faculty and accelerate the development of their research careers.
