Faculty Open Rank Position in Medical and Health Professions Education Research

 

The Office of Education (OE) at the Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine (WUSM), with a strong commitment to medical education research and scholarship, is inviting applications and nominations for an open-rank faculty position. Areas of research/scholarship interest include assessment, the teaching and learning process, data science, artificial intelligence (AI), diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ), professional identity formation, simulation and computer-assisted education technologies, program evaluation, or other areas of health professions education (HPE). Strengths in quantitative research methodologies are preferred, with skills in mixed methods, survey design, survey validation, data analysis, and psychometrics being of significant interest. Qualitative research strengths are also highly valued.

For applicants at the Associate Professor or Professor level, this position carries responsibilities in research, teaching, and service in medical or other HPE and opportunities for leadership in departmental programs. OE faculty are expected to maintain active and visible research programs in their area(s) of expertise that advance the field of HPE. Faculty members are expected to teach and advise students pursuing graduate studies in various certificate, master’s, and doctoral degree HPE programs at WUSM, as well as teach in various WUSM certificate programs and faculty development activities. OE faculty are expected to engage in activities that support institutional commitment to DEIJ activities.

The ideal candidate for a faculty position will be pursuing an academic career in HPE, with broad interests and skills within the field as well as depth in an area of study or methodology relevant to HPE, demonstrated scholarship, teaching skills, and successful mentorship, and a track record of funding commensurate with experience. Candidates should indicate their specific field(s) of expertise in HPE and describe their experience in teaching and research/scholarship.

 

Experience in medical education or other HPE is desirable for applicants at the Assistant Professor level and required for Associate Professor or Professor level applicants. PhD, EdD, MD or other clinical doctorate, JD, or other relevant terminal degree is required. Supported effort for this position could be as much as 1.0 FTE and is negotiable based on the selected candidate's research, clinical, or administrative interests.

The start date for the position is flexible, with an immediate start possible.
