Scientific Director of the Medical Lung Transplant Program

The Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine invites applications and nominations for the position of Scientific Director of Lung Transplant Program.

Reporting to the Division Chief and working in collaboration with the Medical Director and surgical team in transplant, the Scientific Director will expand the research portfolio of the program, foster integration of the clinical program with research endeavors within the division, build a rigorous research training environment, and promote the career development of fellows and early career faculty members within the division and across the institution.


Established 60 years ago, the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care today is comprised of over 40 physicians and approximately 16 advanced practice providers. The division has ACGME-accredited fellowship training programs in Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine and Critical Care Medicine and receives approximately $16M annually in extramural research funding. Faculty collaborate extensively on research projects with faculty outside of the division, including the Institute for Informatics where there is ongoing research in AI.

Candidates are expected to have a MD, PhD, or MD PhD and should be at or above the Associate Professor rank with a robust scientific program in transplantation. We are seeking a diverse slate of candidates and women, and minority physicians are strongly encouraged to apply.

The scientific director should possess a strong research portfolio with sustained record of NIH funding as principal investigator and be nationally or internationally recognized for research in lung transplantation. A record of mentoring trainees is desirable.
The candidate should be Associate Professor for at least 3-5 years or at the Professor level.
