Movement Disorders Neurologist (DBS/Advanced Therapies Leadership Role) – Washington University School of Medicine

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Movement Disorders Neurologist to join our prestigious academic institution in a leadership role focused on Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) and advanced therapies. You will play a vital role in advancing the field of movement disorders, leading a collaborative team of clinicians and researchers, and providing exceptional patient care. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of DBS and focused ultrasound treatment and contribute to cutting-edge research in movement disorders.

Responsibilities:

  1. Clinical Leadership:
    • Provide expert clinical leadership in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of movement disorders, with a particular emphasis on DBS and advanced therapies for movement disorders.
    • Oversee and direct the movement disorders DBS program, ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including neurosurgeons, neuropsychologists, and advanced practice providers to optimize patient outcomes.
  2. Teaching and Mentorship:
    • Provide instruction and mentorship to medical students, residents, and fellows, fostering their growth in movement disorders and neuromodulation.
    • Develop and deliver educational programs for healthcare professionals and patient groups, raising awareness and understanding of movement disorders and DBS.
    • Participate in academic conferences, seminars, and workshops, sharing your expertise and contributing to the educational mission of the institution.
  3. Clinical Excellence:
    • Evaluate and diagnose patients with movement disorders and other related conditions.
    • Develop individualized treatment plans, including DBS programming and medication management, tailored to each patient's specific needs.
    • Monitor patients' progress and make necessary adjustments to optimize outcomes, closely collaborating with the patient and their caregivers.


  1. Medical Education:
    • Medical degree (MD or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
    • Board certification in Neurology with subspecialty training or fellowship in Movement Disorders.
  2. Clinical Experience and Expertise:
    • Extensive clinical experience in the diagnosis and management of movement disorders, including evaluation for candidacy of deep brain stimulation.
  3. Academic and Teaching Abilities:
    • Commitment to education and the ability to deliver effective educational programs.
    • Experience in teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows.
  4. Communication and Collaboration:
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills, fostering effective teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration.
    • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with colleagues, patients, and industry partners.
  5. Research and Grantsmanship:
    • Desire to engage in designing and conducting clinical research studies, with a focus on movement disorders, DBS and advanced therapies.
