Director, Pediatric Residency Program (Washington University in St. Louis/St. Louis Children’s Hospital) #1010850

Washington University in St. Louis/St. Louis Children’s Hospital is seeking a Director for the Pediatric Residency Program to join our medical education team who is committed to distinguished clinical care, teaching, and research. With a total complement of over 100 residents between categorical pediatric and combined pediatric-neurology and pediatric-genetics trainees, our program prides itself on the robust variety of clinical learning environments and research opportunities that has continuously produced both excellent clinicians and academic pediatricians in all specialties. We are seeking the next leader for our program who is equally passionate for educating and training our next pediatricians with interest in joining a program with a long history of high patient volumes and produces strong success in fellowship placement at top programs across the country.

About the Department: The traditions of exemplary clinical training and exposure to cutting edge research and scholarship within the Department of Pediatrics have been cornerstones of the residency program since it began over 100 years ago. Consistently ranked by Doximity as one of the top 20 programs in the US, underrepresented in medicine residents represent 18% of the current class, 15% of the entering class hold dual degrees, and two-thirds of residents go on to pursue fellowship training. All residents gain necessary foundations in general pediatrics through our unique Community Outpatient Practice Experience (COPE) program which pairs each resident with a practicing pediatrician in the community for their continuity clinic experience. Training in our program ensures residents have exposure to all pediatric subspecialties as well as the opportunity for individualized clinical and scholarly experiences through our electives program. Over the last 10-years, our first-time test-taker pass rate on the General Pediatric Certifying Examination is >92%, compared to a national average of 85%.

About St. Louis Children’s Hospital: Patients are seen primarily on-site at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, a free-standing, >400-bed pediatric hospital in the center of St. Louis City. Selected rotations occur at one of two Specialty Care Centers or other outpatient clinics within our community. Over 400 full- and part-time physicians and 80 subspecialty fellows, alongside the superlative allied-health staff, support and teach our residents during their training.

About St. Louis: The city is home to more than labs and hospitals, though. St. Louis attracts artists, engineers, entrepreneurs and other innovative professionals working at the forefront of diverse fields and endeavors. Because St. Louis tends to keep a low profile, newcomers are often surprised by its abundance of character, culture and entertainment. In fact, the city earns accolades from techies, foodies, music-lovers, and outdoor enthusiasts nationwide. A patchwork of eclectic and affordable neighborhoods with world-class arts and attractions, St. Louis provides the excitement and amenities of a big city, but living here is easy and affordable.

MD, DO (or equivalent degree) or MD/PhD from an accredited institution. Board certification in pediatrics. Eligibility for permanent, unrestricted licensure in Missouri. Candidates must qualify for appointment at the Associate Professor or higher level at Washington University School of Medicine. Passion and experience working with, mentoring, and overseeing trainees as well as management/leadership experience desirable.
