Research Director, Hermann Center for Child and Family Development Endowed Chair

The Research Director (Director) and Endowed Professorship of the Hermann Center for Child and Family Development (Hermann Center) is a high level leadership position within the Department of Psychiatry/Division of Child Psychiatry. The director will oversee a new clinical research program focused on early intervention and prevention in mental health in infants and children seven and younger. The position will involve building the infrastructure and ongoing management and supervision of an early childhood mental health program that will provide empirically proven early interventions to all children in the St. Louis community regardless of their ability to pay.  Another critical responsibility will be to facilitate the utilization of this clinical infrastructure for a series of future randomized controlled trial using federal and other funding mechanisms.  The director will be expected to apply for external funding to support randomized controlled trials of interventions being delivered at the center.

 

The position is ideal for an MD/DO or PH.D with existing early intervention clinical trials experience who seeks a new, transformational opportunity in both child mental health. 

The position reports directly to the Director of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and leader of the Hermann Center, Cynthia Rogers, M.D. and co-leader of the Hermann Center Joan Luby, M.D. The Director will serve as a member of the child psychiatry division in the Department of Psychiatry in a tenure track position reporting to Eric Lenze, M.D. Chair of the Department of Psychiatry.   

 Key roles and responsibilities:

 Responsible for the oversight and development of the Hermann Center services.  

  • Develop strategies for establishing a clinical infrastructure that can be utilized for future randomized controlled trial.
  • Mentor, supervise, and evaluate clinicians in the Hermann Center.
  • Work with Drs. Rogers and Luby to design the research programs and to ensure that the Center is conducive to fellowship and medical student education.
  • Maintain a collaborative relationship with the School of Medicine and St. Louis Children’s Hospital (SLCH) and the St. Louis community.
  • Stay apprised of Washington University School of Medicine and SLCH policies and operations.
  • Work with Drs. Rogers and Luby in oversight of research funding for the Hermann Center.
  • Responsible for hiring and oversight of faculty and staff providers in the Hermann Center.
    • Review and manage risk management issues

Qualified candidates will possess a MD, PhD, or DO degree.  MD or DO candidates will hold or be eligible for an unrestricted license to clinically practice medicine in the State of Missouri.  M.D. candidates should be certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) in Psychiatry, and Child Psychiatry. Ph.D. candidates should be licensed in the state of Missouri. The applicant should have at least ten years of clinical and research experience with a track record of NIMH R01 funding in clinical trials in early intervention
