The Pagliarini Lab invites applicants for an Instructor level position. We are seeking a highly motivated and creative scientist. The ideal candidate will be able to design and conduct independent and collaborative mass spectrometry-based experiments to advance our laboratory’s investigations into mitochondrial biology. In particular, we are interested in candidates with extensive experience in designing and executing proteomics and metabolomics experiments, preferably with Thermo Fisher Orbitrap-based instruments. This Instructor will work closely with the other members of the Pagliarini Laboratory on diverse projects exploring mitochondrial function.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Designing projects related to mitochondrial biology, developing and implementing new mass spectrometry methodologies, and conducting research experiments. Additional duties will include providing primary support for the existing mass spectrometry instrumentation in the laboratory to enable the proteomics, lipidomics, metabolomics experiments of the lab (including instrument maintenance and troubleshooting).
The Instructor will have leadership responsibilities and will oversee the training of other team members in mass spectrometry-based applications. May assist in grant applications and may lead their own independent research project.
- Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or related field, and a strong publication record.
- Extensive experience in designing and executing proteomics and metabolomics experiments, preferably with Thermo Fisher Orbitrap-based instruments, including sample preparation, assay development, instrumentation care and troubleshooting, database searching, and knowledge of software interfaces.
- Some level of training in biological sciences and/or with prior experience engaging in collaborative biological projects.
- Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to present on various research topics to internal or external audiences.
- Ability to maintain complete and organized records and reports.
- Demonstrated ability as a self-starter with strong critical thinking and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability and knowledge of computer software and lab equipment including statistical software, spreadsheets, and lab management systems.
