Director of Anesthesiology Washington University & Barnes-Jewish Orthopedic Center in Chesterfield (OC)

We are searching for a Director of Anesthesiology at the OC to oversee a high throughput surgical practice with exceptional quality, safety, and patient satisfaction. The patient population served by the OC and the Departments of Orthopedic Surgery and Anesthesiology, receive ambulatory surgical care for shoulder, elbow, hand, hip, knee, foot, and ankle disease.

 

Aside from contributing to the Department’s mission of delivering outstanding health care, the Director furthers WUSM and WUDA’s mission of educating tomorrow’s leaders by having the OC serve as a hub for the Department’s Acute Pain and Regional Anesthesia Fellowship program. The Director of Anesthesia historically has affirmed and advanced the Medical School’s visibility and exceptional reputation in the community, best illustrated by being the recipient of both the Professional Research Consultants (PRC) 5 Star and Top Performer Awards which places the OC in the top 1% of outpatient surgery scores nationally. The OC Director works regularly with CRNAs, Residents, Fellows, and as a Collaborating MD with OC Nurse Practitioners.

Administratively, the Director sets and revises safety standards of care in collaboration with the OC and the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and is responsible for the implementation of new care pathways and clinical protocols. The Director is instrumental in developing new processes and implementing systems including new clinical technologies, billing and collection efficiencies, innovations in clinical imaging storage, and patient education programs to the Department and Center. The Director generally holds multiple leadership and committee roles for WUDA and the Orthopedic Center in addition to traditionally playing an active role in talent acquisition, policy development and implementation, and liaison to state and federal regulatory oversight for the Division. Both the OC and the Department of Orthopedic Surgery are focused on creating a maximally efficient service line, with increased quality and safety, and exceptional patient care experience. The Director of Anesthesia is a critical component of the mission and vision for Orthopedic Surgery at the OC. The Department of Anesthesiology would like to find a candidate who can maintain these initiatives and expand upon them going forward.

Appointment is contingent upon having a Missouri Medical License, DEA number, BNDD number and submitting to and passing a background check and drug screen, in addition to being fully credentialed by our hospitals (MBMC, BJH, BJWCH), and maintaining compliance with medical staff policies, including having all mandatory vaccinations. WUSM has the following mandatory training requirements for clinical faculty in order to meet regulatory requirements and promote quality patient care:

HIPAA Compliance - one time, online course

Billing Compliance - annually, online course

Risk Management Training- one time, online course

Expert Witness Code of Conduct - one time, signed affirmation statement required

 

Fellowship in Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Management is preferred, but not required. The Director needs to be proficient with all types of upper and lower extremity peripheral nerve block techniques and continuous nerve catheter placement/management.
