Molecular Pathologist
ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI (USA). The Department of Pathology & Immunology at Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM) is recruiting a clinical (non-tenure) track Molecular Pathologist at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full professor to join our growing Section of Molecular Oncology. The section includes faculty and staff who collaborate with other pathologists, laboratory geneticists, oncologists, and researchers across WUSM, Siteman Cancer Center, and The McDonnell Genome Institute to perform clinical molecular oncology testing for patient care and translational research. Specific responsibilities will include interpretation and sign out of a broad range of NGS-based molecular oncology testing, NGS assay design and development, NGS informatics, participation in laboratory operations (including management and accreditation) and trainee education. Involvement in clinical and translational research will be encouraged.
The Department (http://pathology.wustl.edu): The Department of Pathology & Immunology excels in basic and clinical research and delivery of outstanding pathology and laboratory medicine services. The Department and the University have a long history in molecular oncology, including sequencing of the first cancer genome (2009), launch of one of the first clinically accredited cancer sequencing panels (2011), and use of clinical WGS for oncology (2021). In 2015, the department moved to a new facility at the center of the Washington University Medical Campus. The Department provides a supportive environment for research and teaching.
The School (http://medicine.wustl.edu): U.S. News & World Report ranks WUSM among the top ten in the nation and first in academic selectivity. Eighteen Nobel laureates have trained or carried out research here. Thirteen faculty members are fellows of the National Academy of Sciences, and 24 belong to the Academy of Medicine. WUSM is 10th among U.S. medical schools in grants received from the National Institutes of Health ($582 million in 2020).
Education and Expectations: Candidates must possess an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree(s) and be board certified in AP, AP/CP, or CP, and be board-certified or board-eligible in Molecular Genetic Pathology (MGP) through the American Board of Pathology. Ideal candidates will have experience in NGS data analysis and/or assay development in addition to molecular oncology case sign out.
