The Vice-Chair for Professional Development and Wellness in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN) at Washington University School of Medicine is major leadership opportunity and one that is essential to the mission of the Department. The VC-PDW will serve on the leadership team of the Department of OB/GYN, directly reporting to the Chair. In addition to clinical activities, this individual will provide direction and oversight for all departmental policies, programs, procedures and committees related to professional development for departmental members; identify needs and implement programs that foster an environment of professionalism, collegiality and respect and to partner with divisional leaders to ensure successful recruitment and retention of faculty and staff.

The Department of OB/GYN is strongly guided by its C.A.R.E. model:
• Clinical Service
• Administrative Support and Oversight
• Research
• Education

Our mission is to improve healthcare through exceptional clinical service, research, education and community engagement (C.A.R.E. MODEL). Our vision is to lead the nation in delivering exceptional CARE. Our values are competence, curiosity, compassion and IDEA2 (Inclusion and Innovation, Diversity and Discovery, Equity and Excellence, Advancement and Advocacy).

The VC-PDW thus helps create opportunity and drives efforts to increase faculty members’ success through recruitment, retention, appointment and promotion. The VC-PDW not only actively mentors individual faculty, but also furthers departmental programs and extramural opportunities for faculty development in a variety of areas, including clinical, research, education, and leadership, as well as diversity, equity, inclusion, wellness, and resilience. To that end the VC-PDW will manage a departmental fund designed to support department members in their pursuit of opportunities aimed at furthering their career or academic goals. The VC-PDW will also collaborate across BJC HealthCare, the School of Medicine, and Washington University in St. Louis to advance the professional goals of all members of the department.

The successful candidate should be board certified (or equivalent) in OB/GYN and, if applicable, in their subspecialty, communicate effectively with diverse groups, build trust and credibility, and align with the wide gamut of departmental team members to achieve key strategic, operational, and cultural goals. The successful VC-PDW leads through influence and by example, displays an abundance mindset, and is equally comfortable interacting with and seeking input from individuals at all levels of the organization and with many diverse backgrounds and perspectives. The candidate must have demonstrated experience in faculty development and a record of mentorship, with at least two years in a leadership role.
