Department of Emergency Medicine

Emergency Medicine

Clinician

Assistant Professor

Assistant/Associate Program Director

Founded in 1997, Emergency Medicine is now a newly minted Department of Washington University in St. Louis, and we are excited to announce the search for a new member of our leadership residency team: Assistant/Associate Program Director. We are a cohesive group of educators that share a passion for innovation and creativity in graduate medical education. Barnes Jewish Hospital ED is our main clinical site, the largest provider of charity care in the area, a Level 1 trauma center, and the largest tertiary referral center in the region with over 80,000 annual ED visits. There is also the opportunity to also work with residents in our 55,000 annual visit Peds ED at St. Louis Children’s Hospital or at our community site, Missouri Baptist Medical Center with almost 35,000 annual visits.

WashU EM is a four-year program supporting 14 residents per class for a total of 56 residents. While residents spend much of their time learning at Barnes Jewish Hospital, they rotate at St. Louis Children’s Hospital and two different community sites at Missouri Baptist Medical Center and Barnes-Jewish St. Peter’s Hospital. Post-graduation, approximately two thirds of our residents pursue academic careers while the other third go into the community.

In all individuals applying, we would hope to see a demonstrable commitment to further our specialty through educating the next generation of EM physicians and creating excellent academicians.

Our culture at WashU EM values diversity, thus we are seeking a candidate who not only values the same but demonstrates diversity, equity, and inclusion in their professional careers. Those who bring diversity to our Department are strongly encouraged to apply.

We offer applicants a competitive salary, generous benefits, professional development opportunities, and much more. The candidate offered this job would also be awarded an academic rank commensurate with their previous professional experiences, academic productivity, and awards.

Currently, our team consists of Jason Wagner, MD, the current PD and recent recipient of the 2021 AAEM Program Director of the Year and four other APDs as well as two residency coordinators. In addition to the above residency team, our Department has recently named the inaugural Vice Chair for Education, Komo Gursahani, MD to help advance the EM education mission across the institution. Finally, we are happy to have Ope Adeoye, MD, MS join us as the inaugural Department Chair and BJC HealthCare Distinguished Professor of Emergency Medicine.

We hope that you sense the tremendous growth and opportunity for Emergency Medicine in our medical school and healthcare institution, and we are excited to interview those who are up to the challenge of continuing to make this one the best place to train residents in Emergency Medicine in the country.

Qualified candidates must be ABEM/ABOEM certified/eligible.

Interested candidates are encouraged to send a letter of interest and curriculum vitae addressed to Dr. Opeolu Adeoye.
