The Division of General Anesthesiology within the Department of Anesthesiology at Washington University in St. Louis and Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH) is recruiting a Director of Gastrointestinal (GI) Endoscopy Anesthesia. The Department of Anesthesiology at Washington University is committed to advancing the specialty of anesthesiology, improving patient outcomes through meaningful discovery, and has ranked in the top five in NIH funding for over 10 years.

This is a crucial leadership position within the Division and the Department, as well as an exciting career opportunity for an energetic and enthusiastic individual. The Director will be responsible for providing leadership and clinical services for a state-of-the-art, growing GI service. S/he will work closely with the Chief of General Anesthesiology and the Director of Clinical Operations to:

  1. Optimize patient flow, from preoperative evaluation to postoperative disposition;
  2. Ensure the highest standards of patient safety and satisfaction
  3. Standardize processes and procedures across the GI anesthesia service
  4. Define quality control metrics and monitor clinical activity

As such, the successful applicant for this position is a master clinician who has experience working in high patient throughput environments and, ideally, has already provided tangible leadership contributions in the course of her/his career. Establishing a strong partnership with other members of the team including anesthesia faculty, CRNAs, nurses, scribe and endoscopists will be critical. This position entails working clinically 5 days per week, in a medical supervision model, without weekend or call responsibility.

The GI Anesthesiology service provides perioperative care for approximately 10,000 cases per year in 5 state-of-the-art suites. Cases include ERCP, colonoscopy, upper endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound.
