Medical Director of Anatomic Pathology Informatics
The Department of Pathology & Immunology at Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM) in St Louis, working in collaboration with the Washington University Institute for Informatics (I2), is inviting applications for a full-time clinical informatics faculty position at the Assistant/Associate Professor level to serve as the Medical Director of Anatomic Pathology Informatics.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated individual who will lead pathology informatics services as well as participate in biomedical informatics and computational research within the department of Pathology and Immunology and the Institute for Informatics. The successful candidate will collaborate with basic science and clinical colleagues in pathology as well as with the broader applied informatics community at Washington University and BJC Healthcare to help enhance the utilization of digital pathology and telepathology pathology services, deliver advanced decision support, and leverage technology-based interventions to improve population health and wellness. An academic appointment at a rank commensurate with experience will apply for this position.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Advise on and coordinate implementation of academic and community hospital digital pathology services.
- Develop and evaluate clinical informatics tools and solutions within Cerner CoPath, Epic EHR, and other healthcare information systems, working in a coordinated manner with BJC Healthcare and its Healthcare Informatics and Information Science teams.
- Design and oversee research-focused informatics projects working with pathology colleagues.
- Serve as a faculty investigator within the Washington University Institute for Informatics (I2), participating in research, educational, and service activities involving a full spectrum of translational bioinformatics, clinical research informatics, clinical informatics, and population health informatics initiatives.
- Provide subspecialty surgical pathology services to Barnes-Jewish Hospital or St. Louis Children’s Hospital based on the candidate's experience and expertise.
- Participate in pathology residency and clinical informatics fellowship education.
Education and Expectations:
Candidates must possess M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degrees as well as Board certification or active candidate status for Anatomic Pathology through the American Board of Pathology. The candidate should additionally either be Board-certified or Board-eligible in Clinical Informatics, or should be pursuing Board eligibility via the practice pathway. The candidate is expected to have excellent interpersonal, communication, and administrative skills as well as interest in education of medical students and post-graduate trainees. Development of an extramural funded research program is highly encouraged and will be supported.
