Since 1905, The Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology has had a history of imaging and innovation, setting best practices and next practices in academic radiology.   This position will support our imaging services at Barnes Jewish Hospital.   Washington University School of Medicine is in the top 10 medical schools in the US with extensive NIH research support.  Our diagnostic radiology residency is the largest in the country. The diagnostic medical physicist will support clinical, regulatory, and technical instrumentation for CT, Fluoroscopy and Radiography, including patient safety supervision and training of technologists.  Additional participation in clinical research is strongly desired.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the clinical operations of the CT, MRI, Fluoroscopy and Radiography service at Barnes Jewish Hospital (BJH).

  • Maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements, such as the American College of Radiology (ACR) as well as Joint Commission (JC) accreditation for CT.

  • Provide assistance and supervision in training technical staff and physicians in radiation safety and MRI safety.

  • Review clinical CT and Fluoroscopy protocols to maintain the BJH mission for optimizing image quality and radiation dose.

  • Be part of a clinical excellence team driving the use of low dose CT protocols in the BJH enterprise.

  • Conduct innovative clinical research in partnership with radiologists and industry partners.

  • Be a part of the team that will optimize and innovate  imaging protocols for CNS, Body, Cardiac and MSK.

  • Provide ongoing education to radiology technologists, radiology residents and fellows.

  • Academic appointment is available with rank dependent on qualifications

 

Requirements:

  • MS or PhD degree in Medical Physics or equivalent background in physics, engineering or related discipline

  • Certified in one or more of the following

    • American Board of Radiology: Diagnostic Medical Physics, Diagnostic Radiological Physics or Radiological Physics

    • American Board of Medical Physics:  Diagnostic Imaging Physics

    • Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine: Diagnostic Radiology Physics
